Go Blue - Discover

Dance classAt UMaine, we want you to explore the possibilities that exist outside your door and halfway around the world. Yes, we’re a relatively small public university in a relatively small state (well, population-wise, anyway), but we’re big on opportunity. Really big.

Our art museum has a world-class permanent collection. And you can stare at the Warhols, the Marins and the Picasso as often as you want , because students always get in free. You can also watch internationally known acts at the Maine Center for Arts, which will open in January 2009 after extensive renovations. Through our academic visual and performing arts programs, our student artists shine, too.

Exploration doesn’t stop with culture, however. It extends to cultures. We offer opportunities for our undergraduates to study on other campuses in the United States and abroad.

At UMaine, the world is yours to explore. And the horizon is yours to expand. Get to it.

Jennifer FortierI had never done fieldwork, and before I went on a research cruise off Iceland with Mary Jane Perry, a professor of marine science and oceanography, I didn’t know if I could do it. We were really in the middle of the ocean, and if something happens, you’re so far from the mainland. But I decided to go, and it really showed me how to use my resources and how to get the most from the experience. It really gave me a lot of confidence.
