Academic Requirements for Admission
The required high
school academic course of study, combined with academic electives,
should equal at least 17 credits. For foreign language requirements, the
two years of study must be in the same language. Two years of American
Sign Language (ASL) may be used to satisfy this requirement for
admission.

AP Credit
At the University of Maine, we encourage our applicants to take honors
and Advanced Placement courses. Students who take AP courses and earn
grades of 3 or better on the AP test may be eligible for college credit.

Application & Enrollment Fees
A nonrefundable application fee of $40 is submitted with the admission
application. An enrollment deposit of $150 is due by May 1 and is
applied to the first semester bill. Early confirmation of deposits are
refundable up to May.

Application Checklist
1. Completed application for undergraduate admission along with a
non-refundable $40 application fee;
2. Official high school transcript showing the first set of senior
year grades submitted to UMaine by the high school;
3. Copies of your official SAT or ACT test scores, sent directly to
the Admission Office by the testing agency, or included on the high
school transcript; (Not required if you are at
least 20 years old and have never attended college).
Candidates who are less than 20 years old are required to submit the
results of the SAT I or the ACT exam. UMaine's College Board code number
is 3916;
4. One recommendation, preferably from a high school guidance
counselor. (For current high
school seniors only).

Entrance Test Requirements
Four-Year Degree Candidates
Candidates for admission who are less than 20 years old are required to
submit the results of SAT1 or the ACT exam. UMaine's College Board code
number is 3916.
Resident Aliens
Students whose native language is not English should submit scores from
the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination no later
than March 15. This will assist in making a more accurate assessment of
English Proficiency.

First Quarter / First Trimester Grades
The Admissions office will monitor academic progress throughout the
senior year and will wait for grades from the first marking period
before reviewing any application.

Mid-Year Grades
Academic performance in the senior year is an important consideration
when reviewing student credentials. Between mid-January and
mid-February, candidates for admission are requested to have mid-year
grades forwarded from their high school to UMaine's Admission Office for
evaluation.

Final Grades
To verify high school graduation, admitted high school seniors must have
final high school transcripts sent directly from their high schools to
the Office of Admission.

Notification of Admission Decisions
Fall Semester (Early Action) - Candidates will be notified by
the end of January. The $150 confirmation deposit is due May 1.
Fall Semester (Regular admission) - Candidates will typically be
notified within six weeks from receipt of the application and all
supporting documents. The $150 confirmation deposit is due May 1.
Spring Semester - Candidates will be notified between October 1
and January 1. The $150 confirmation deposit is due January 1.

Reactivation of Previous Application
Applications submitted to
UMaine are retained for a period of two years. To have your application
reconsidered, submit a "Reactivation Form" along with transcripts of
recent coursework completed and a $40 fee. Candidates with name changes
through marriage or legal court action must ensure that their
transcripts reflect such changes.

Readmission to UMaine
Former University of Maine
degree candidates planning to return to the campus to resume
undergraduate work must contact the Academic Dean of the undergraduate
college in which the candidate plans to seek enrollment. Candidates will
be notified by the Dean's office of the readmission decision. Click here

Ways to Apply
Early Action:
Applications for the fall semester postmarked by December 15 will be
reviewed by the end of January. Early action candidates will be given
first consideration for merit scholarships awarded by the Admissions
office.
Regular Admission: Applications for the fall semester completed
after December 15, and Early Action Applications deferred to the regular
admission process will be reviewed on a rolling admission basis as long
as space is available. An admission decision will typically be made
within six weeks from receipt of the application and all supporting
documents.
